Polygamy In Islam By Liyakat Shah

Polygamy In Islam By Liyakat Shah

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Well Islam is very simple and we people made it complicated Our Emman is on Allah Rabbul Izzat and Prophet Mohammad Peace And Blessings upon Him so do try to find the process of polygamy with reference to Quran and Hadith and mere just by issuing any statements criticism would just keep suspicious questions floating in the minds of people If Quran says to have more than one wife that too on conditions than there is no reason to ask a question there as to why? Similarly a person who intends to have more than one wife ought to think a lot in all terms it's not just for fun and enjoyments. One has to be very much cautious before taking that step because he has to give equal distribution in all walks of life as long as he is alive. And if he denies any of rights form anyone than he is not fit for taking that step. Mere just by having two wives is not for fun but he should satisfy them with all amenities of food, shelter and clothing that too of same quality and standard to both of them and if he denies than no way to do that.

Here is a very good example of equal distribution of things among two wives. If the so called husband has two wives and brings two fresh apples from the market for both than he would give one each so that no problem would arise in case of look and so on as both have been purchased from same shop. But Islam says to cut both the apples and make four parts of it and share half from both the apples form each to give them, the reason for this is that if one apple is sweet and other is sour than one wife would feel happy and the other would feel sad which would be the cause of difference and give rise to envy, quarrels and conflicts. Hence forth if one intends to provide equal distribution to both the wives can go for it otherwise one is good for you.

The Quran in Sura 4:3Allah says:
And if you be apprehensive that you will not be able to do justice to the orphans, you may marry two or three or four women whom you choose. But if you apprehend that you might not be able to do justice to them, then marry only one wife, or marry those who have fallen in your possession.
(Maududi, The Meaning of the Qur'an, vol. 1, p. 3

'Umar ibn al-Ahwas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say during the Farewell Pilgrimage: "Take good care of women, for they are your prisoners and you have no rights over them beyond that, except if they commit open illegal lewdness; if they do that, then you should shun them in their beds and strike them, but not in a way that causes pain. And if they return to obedience, seek not against them means (of annoyance). You have rights over your women and your women have rights over you. Your rights over your women are that they should not allow anyone to sit on your beds whom you dislike, or allow anyone to enter your houses who you dislike, and their rights over you are that you should clothe and feed them properly.
(Reported by al-Tirmidhi, 1163; Ibn Maajah, 1851. Al-Tirmidhi said this is a hasan saheeh hadeeth).

May Allah Subhanahu Wa ta'ala Have Mercy & Blessings upon Me & whole Ummah forgive all our minor and major sins and get a place in Jannatul Firdaus.
